Greetings Arcadia Corners Residents, Hope you are well. It’s been a while since we last sent an email, and there are a lot of points to discuss, so I’ll get to them!
IWDD and Irrigation
- BRETT CROWTHER IS LEAVING as our neighborhood irrigator at the end of the year! Chris Johnson provided many years of valuable service and consistency, so we are surprised. Our IWDD (Rancho Ventura 12) has started the search for a replacement. We reached out to neighbors with the Leroy District IWDD, serving 70 homes north of us on Cheery and Earl, and they are also losing Brett. If you happen to know Phoenicians happy with a different irrigator, please send their name our way.
- FLOODING in the ALLEY between Pinchot and Catalina during prior irrigation runs has been due to improper self-service of irrigation water. We are sending a letter out to those residents to describe prevention methods, but if you have any questions for how to properly self-irrigate, please send an email this way. There are two options for receiving irrigation, either employ the neighborhood irrigator, or follow procedure to ensure our neighborhood is well-maintained.
- CONSTRUCTION BREAKS: It’s the responsibility of homeowners and contractors to maintain the integrity of private irrigation lines between homes, but some either don’t know – or mind. The IWDD has started to distribute and post flyers at residences recently sold or under construction. Water rights are extremely valuable to each property, and they are an inherent right of owners in Arcadia Corners and our Rancho Ventura 12 IWDD. The IWDD supports this asset for ALL property owners. If you would ever like a copy of the flyer to distribute to new potential owners that highlights the value of irrigation, send me an email!
- The IWDD recently worked with the Avalon home under construction to fix their broken irrigation port. If you see other issues, please let us know. You may always find more info on irrigation status at www.arcadiacorners.com or email IWDD@arcadiacorners.com . This blog will have the latest updates.
TRASH
- ALLEY TRASH continues to be a problem. Contractors have been dumping construction trash behind properties that they are not even working for, to save a trip to the dump. I have a huge sand filter behind my wall right now that came from an unknown pool. We are in zone 6, and our next placement begins September 16 with pickup starting September 25. If you suspect illegal dumping in progress, report incident to Crime Stop at 602-262-6151. If illegal dumping is not in progress, report incident to Phoenix customer services at 602-262-6251. Find out more info at: https://www.phoenix.gov/publicworks/garbage/bulktrash
- NEW COLLECTION DATE for trash and recycling is Tuesday every week.
- CITY GATE PROGRAM
- To potentially prevent problems with dumping and crime, the city has provided $500,000 in funding for their gated alley program, which means that residents could apply for free funding for a gated alley. Multiple neighbors have signaled interest, but this would require a volunteer to coordinate.
- If you are interested in this program, we have been collecting neighborhood interest at the following online form at: https://forms.gle/h84WbFjm4H5r2ETD8 . The program must be spearheaded by a homeowner within the eligible streets, so if you have any interest in getting this off the ground, let me know. I am happy to connect you with the other neighbors who have signed the form already, and the rest of the details the city sent.
SURROUNDING DEVELOPMENTS
- Thomas Bike Lanes: The City of Scottsdale and Phoenix are working on plans to expand the walk and bike-ability of Thomas Road between 48th (greenbelt) and 73rd Street, by removing a single eastbound lane, and adding a bike lane and improved sidewalk and landscape on both sides. This connects to a larger pedestrian and bike plan across Phoenix, including connection at the cross-cut canal greenbelt and improvements on 56th street between Arizona Falls and Thomas Road. They are having a period of public input now.
- Adding well-thought-out pedestrian space, bike lanes, and trees tends to improve the neighborhood, but what do you think? More info, a video of the recorded presentations and citizen survey for you to submit are available at https://www.phoenix.gov/streets/Thomas4856
- Thomas Road and 44th street is also a candidate for Bus Rapid Transit corridor. www.phoenix.gov/brt
Phew, if you have read this far, I think we are all exhausted. Hope this has been helpful. Please share this email list with your new neighbors, and feel free to email back with any neighborhood news or questions.
